Constructivist Chronicle

Minutes from the 2003 Int'l. Congress Business Meeting
(Friday, July 18th, 2003)
Vol. 7, Issue 2
(Fall 2003)
Convenor: Gabriele Chiari (EPCA President)
Regrets: Martin Fromm
Report from Australia
Bill Warren (APCN President)
The Australasian Personal Construct Network Sydney 2002 conference was a success, with 50 people showing up.
The next APCN conference will be held in Melbourne in 2004. Details will be available on-line soon.
The Australian Psychological Society is going having its next
conference in Perth. A symposium for constructivists will be
staffed there.
The newsletter continues publication, with Beverly Walker editing. It continues to be a valued communication piece.
There is some concern about the rotation for the 2007 International
Congress, with an issue about resources not being available to back a
conference for that projected time. Presently, Australia is not
“putting itself forward forcefully” to host the 2007
conference.
Report from EPCA
Alessandra Iantaffi (standing in for Gabriele Chiari, EPCA President)
The EPCA is happy to report that membership is picking up. Joern
Scheer’s update of the website is thought to be helping this, as
is the on line newsletter.
It appears that next year’s EPCA conference will be in Stuttgart, with Martin Fromm organizing.
The 2006 conference is projected to be somewhere in the south of Sweden, but no specifics are set on this location yet.
Report from NAPCN
Jon Raskin (NAPCN President)
The 2004 NAPCN conference is set for Memphis (see p. 6 in current issue
of the Chronicle for further details). The conference will be held in
the latter half of June, rather than in July when NAPCN conferences
usually run. Late June seems to be a better time for the Memphis
conference, partly because the University of Memphis is so busy in
July, and partly because July weather tends to be very hot in Memphis.
Name change is awaiting vote results. These will be reported by
Stephanie Harter, NAPCN Treasurer (see article in this issue of the
Chronicle).
Jon has been working on bylaws to reflect new name, when it has been decided.
2005 International Congress
The International Congress for 2005 is till set to be Columbus
Ohio. Larry Leitner of Miami University in nearby Oxford, Ohio is
organizing it. The dates are set, but Larry has not announced
them yet. The conference site is on the edge of Ohio State
University.
The feature will be of George Kelly’s life as he lived in
Columbus Ohio and worked at Ohio State University. It was noted
that Columbus was central enough to the life of George Kelly that his
final resting place was chosen to be Columbus, even though he had lived
in many other places throughout the US.
A big attendance is the goal of this conference. Perhaps one way
of doing this is to contact all of Kelly’s former students to
invite them. Additionally, getting the Archive History of APA may
serve as another angle to bring in more involvement.
2007 International Congress
By rotation, the 2007 International Congress should be in either Europe
or Australia. New Zealand was suggested as an attractive spot,
but securing resources to do this may be difficult.
Germany may turn out to be an option if no other place is
available. It was suggested that Martin Fromm might be prepared
to do it as a back up.
Joern Scheer suggested that based on his experience running the Berlin
conference (1999) the essential pieces to run a conference are an
organizer, a good secretary, and a handful of students to help.
You don’t necessarily have to be there at the actual site to
administer it.
David Winter suggested to leave Australia open in case someone there does want to step up and run it.
